update minoris

The Blogger’s end of year party rocked. Since I’m not too good at spinning a yarn, I’ll let the hostess and the Enrique, the unofficial photographer talk about it.

Chanel and Antipop, thanks for organising this and making sure the meat was real tasty! Rock on!

In other news. Today was a happy day, finally fixed the TV I talked about earlier. I’d mis-wired something on the circuit board, so it’s all good now. Spent half the morning trying to get the aerial up, reception is still shady, will have to re-do the aerial tomorrow.

Slept like a buffoon. As in slept like a buffoon. Woke up, watched movies, slept again, went out, bought rolex and coke. Watched more movies, slept again.

I never knew being idle can be sooo… boring.

So yeah, we’ll see how tomorrow goes.

I watched an inspiring video about the awesomeness of God, and the quote below really struck me, so please allow me to share it. See the offtopic below.

People travel to wonder at the height of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars; and they pass by themselves without wondering.

merry Christmas toute le monde, plus an owl thrown in

First off, for those of you who think xkcd and Dilbert are riotously funny, I found another gem on the interwebs: Daisy Owl. Do Enjoy. You might want to start from the beginning.

And now, since most of you [may] be breaking off this Friday, and some of us will continue to monitor our servers to make sure your websites n applications don’t go off the interwebs, which technically means we’ll be working, not that we complain, this feels like the most appropriate time to wish you all a merry Christmas.

Here’s to all you, who have made this year a beautiful, awesome and inspiring year. And for all who’ve stood with me through the tough times, you know who you are, thank you.

And on behalf of Node Six, Two W.E.A.K Dudes and I,

Merry Christmas Goog blogren peoples

Offtopic, the true spirit behind Christmas:

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

ten lessons from 2008

2008 was like being dipped inside a drum full of water, top sealed, with only a tiny hole to breathe and see through at the same time, then getting the drum thrown in the front seat of a roller coaster, which was then attached to a rocket.

Some parts fun, some views beautiful, mostly downright freaky-scaring-the-bollocks-out-of-you.

Here’s what I learnt:

in search of perfection

Something small before I dash out for a crazy afternoon of errands.

About two years ago, a friend of mine told me something profound that has stuck in my mind to this day. We were discussing relationships and how we all have a dream of the perfect partner for us.

You know how idealogical we all get, perfect body, perfect teeth, etc etc.

Okay, so many some delusions are not so grand. Still you always want the best of something, right? Best job, best car, best house, best wife or husband.

But, just indulge me for a moment, and ask yourself this: Are you the best person for those things?

podcast interview at Appfrica

Jon Gosier of Appfrica was one of the facilitators of the Facebook Developer Garage that took place on Saturday 13th December. During the Garage, he pulled aside a few people and interviewed them for their take on the Garage.

As founder of Node Six, I was one of the people he interviewed for the Appfricast podcast. Click here to listen to the audio interview (select MP3). It has some pretty interesting insights about the event towards the end.

I also did an earlier text interview with him sometime back, just in case you missed it.

Enjoy.

making your own luck

I know many people who seem to have an impressive amount of success at almost anything they do, whatever deal they touch somehow turns to gold.

Most of us would write them off as simply “being lucky.”

But I believe it goes further than that.

I believe that behind almost every legitimate success story, there are hundreds of stories leading up to the one big story. Stories of decisions and choices made, stories of different paths chosen, stories of skills learnt, stories of friendships made in the strangest of places.

the weekend that was

Everytime I hit a cafe, it feels so totally wierd, yet at some stage in my life, I practically lived in the things. The keyboards are wierd, keys stuck together with remnants of soda and bagiya. The browsers freeze every now and then, and the stench and noise are unbelievable! There was a time things like this would never bother me because I accepted it as a way of life. I guess things change huh?

Speaking of changes, I normally have very quiet weekends, but this weekend has been crazy!

may my works be pleasing in your eyes

While we’re still on the subject of being grateful, another thought for you to munch on.

A lot of the things we do in our different capacities are because we’re trying to please someone. Maybe we want to please ourselves, impress our friends or mollify our loved ones.

Maybe we want to get into the boss’ good books so we can justify the raise or promotion.

Or perhaps it’s a last minute panic to deliver something, a project or a piece of work so as to avoid the repercussions.
