a brand called you, meet “Me Inc.”

A little food for thought, from recent events.

You spend an endless amount of time at Big Corp Inc. Steadily working 9-5, bringing in money, making it rain on their business.

You do customer support, you answer the phone, you deal with clients, you handle their accounts. All this, of course is for a reason, most likely because at the end of the month, Big Corp Inc. is paying your salary.

You value your job at Big Corp Inc. because of the the reward you get at the end of the month. And because of this, you work very hard at it, hoping for a promotion, or a raise, or a better job at Bigger Corp Inc.

But do you know what the bottom line is? Do you know what you’re actually doing? You’re making Big Corp Inc. look good.

With your every action, or inaction, you, my friend, are branding Big Corp Inc.

But there is a bigger and much more important entity you need to seriously think about.

It’s called Me Inc.

Yes, you.

You spend your entire life at Me Inc. You sleep at Me Inc, you deal with every single person you meet, or don’t meet. You make it rain at Me Inc. Your best friend calls and you answer, “Me Inc, how may I help you?”

Your landlady calls Me Inc. Your parents, and siblings deal with Me Inc. all the time. In class, you’re representing Me Inc. At the bar, at the club, the reputation of Me Inc. is at your mercy.

Your entire life, every breath, every thought, every action, every inaction, every word, you are steadily branding Me Inc.

The question I want to ask you then, is this:

How much do you value yourself?

    Dude, quit making us think so hard very early int he morning…(at least my time).

    I value myself a great deal and Me Inc is a huge brand. But quite how much am I supposed to put into myself (no pun intended) without coming off as a selfish, self centred, obese egomaniac?

    @Mudamuli, of course you can.

    @Miss, lol, what’s wrong with thinking? You see, that’s brand management, how people percieve you. So if you over do it, your brand becomes “selfish” and arrogant.

    Brand management…yesterday I had a crisis talk with a client. It was about expectations and deliverables. I guess on reading this, I understand Me Inc varies with his clients.

    My take on this is, dont ever let the time of Big Corp Inc intrude or come before Me Inc time.

    @Nevender, Me Inc ideally should never vary, it should be a stable recognisable brand. Pulling that off is another story altogether.

    @Igis, but see, even while at Big Corp Inc, you are still running Me Inc. The two are not mutually exclusive. You can never isolate Me Inc from any other aspect of your life.

    SK, you remind me of an advert when you talk about Me Inc having to be a stable recognisable brand. The words in the ad were: “Conditions change. Results shouldn’t”. And as you have mentioned, pulling that off takes grace grace and more grace.

    well well
    now that i got Mrs.B2B, the stocks are gwan rise even further…

    and SoloDawgKing, this is an amazing post, coz we are numerous times guilty of putting “ourselves” off for a bigger inc, which is crap!!!

    in all aspects, if YOU are positive, it resonates all over….

    Me Inc is a multi brand experience, kinda like procter & gamble. There’s omo, blueband, solea, colgate, geisha, samona, paramount etc. Its hard to pin me down.

    this has just depressed me coz of the realisation that i certainly do not get a salary of what i am worth… or the amount of work i put in… actually, let me close down and just go home to my young man who at least values me…

    @Nevender, very interesting statement, “Conditions change. Results shouldn’t”… deep indeed

    @Mr BDawg, lol, the Missus raises stocks indeed. I believe the You brand should be given higher priority than the other brands, because it will stick with you for life.

    @The Apprentice, dude…

    @Sybella, well, being depressed means you believe Me Inc is not doing as well as it should be, it means you value yourself more than what people think you’re worth. So are you going to do something about it?

    @Sleek, dude, you know me, I’ve been intarekcho since baby class.
