and it shall be called “Evenstar”

14 Oct

In the beginning, there was the Rogue King, and for a time, it was good. A boring existence followed, interrupted with the occasional stifled royal yawn, and punctuated with endless series of meaningless roguish activity. Until one night, a deep ethereal voice rang out from the heavens;

“Learn the guitar”.

And the Rogue King tossed and turned in his bed, unable to get any sleep. He called his wisest advisers, and they came trembling to his courts, for they full knew the wrath of the Rogue King when incensed by insomnia.

One by one, they failed him, and he had them all thrown into the lion’s den, where the fire was made seven times hotter, and there was much weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Finally, one frail adviser was left. Solomon was his name, and he was a quivering mass of flesh, dressed in goat-skin and looking like he’d been on a diet of locusts and honey. He inwardly rued the day he was brought forth to this world, for all his life’s endeavours where to end this very night.

“Solomon!” The Rogue King’s voice echoed in the chamber.

“Yes, sire…” a frail whimper, not unlike a mongrel on the verge of death from hunger.

“Solomon! Solomon! Let down your golden hair!”

Silence.

“Uhhh… sire?”

An even lesser aide scurried over to the Rogue King and whispered frantically in his ears.

The Rogue King blushed ever so slightly.

“Solomon! Go ye forth to Nineveh where you shall find a fish…”

More frantic whispering from the aide.

More blushing from the Rogue King, a deeper crimson this time.

“Solomon! What sayeth thee?” A safer and more cautious statement from the Rogue King to avert any more embarrassment.

“Your Rogueness, the assignment you gave me would not let me sleep. For days on end, I thought the matter over, twirling it in the depths of my insignificant mind…”

“You are not paid to think! I do the thinking around here! Off with his head!”

“Sire, please… I didn’t think much… I went out and searched far and wide, moving mountains and tiny pebbles, parting the Red Sea and opening up grounds. Unfortunately, a few of your noble servants died in the process… At last, kismet led me to this.”

From the confines of his cloak, Solomon pulled out the object.

The Rogue King’s eyes grew wide in wonder, he clutched at his purple robed chest and in his heart, a song started. A song that shone through his very soul until the heavens parted and a heavenly host began singing.

The Rogue King ran down the royal stairs, and tripped on his royal foot. A thousand king’s horses and king’s men rushed and held him before his royal, albeit minuscule, goatee could touch the royal floor.

He reached out, and took the guitar in his hands, and clutched it to his bosom like one holds a newborne babe.

Then he held it high, for all the kingdom to see, and his majestic voice rang out.

“It shall be called Evenstar!

And it was called Evenstar, and all, was good.

About the photos, I was using a lousy phone camera from my housemate, taking my own photos, in lousy light conditions, and you know my skin colour, it needs floodlights for my snap to come out muzuri.

    @Islander, yeah, it’s easy for people to make that assumption when your name is really “King”.

    Read around, do a little background work and you might find yourself making another radically different conclusion.

    Welcome.

    @Emrys, dude, focus.

    Man, Emrys, calm down!

    I was also wondering at the wickedness of a lion’s den filled with fire. How much torture can one do at once?

    Evenstar… hmmm. I’d have to hear it to know if the name goes with the sound, but so far so good.

    @Emi, when the insomnia gets tough, the tough get strumming…

    @Val, I know, even guys swoon over chicks who can play guitar

    @Tandra, words fail me, my friend

    @mamapete, enough torture to send the message across, hehehe.

    And to all wondering, the full name should be something like Arwen Evenstar, but that would be too pretentious now, wouldn’t it?

    ok ok let me get this straight;
    thrown into a pit
    with lions
    a fire that was turned up 7fold
    and gnashing of teeth & weeping?

    Ok but are the lions being punished as well? How do you weep in that kinda fire? Whose teeth were gnashing, the advisors or the lions? Where they playing guitar too?

    Wikid :P

    @Mr B2B, Not really, it was written on the fly, then scrolled back to check for errors and some verbal pimpage.
