download ebooks for free

8 Jan

While digging through my bookmarks for a followup to yesterday’s post, I found two sites that are priceless.

They offer free ebooks for download, and some are very popular books. Here’s a random selection from the thousands they have for download:

  • The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
  • Grimm’s Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm
  • The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde
  • Paradise Lost by John Milton
  • Ulysses by James Joyce
  • The Kama Sutra of Vatsayayana by Richard Burton
  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button by F. Scott Fitzgerald

And yes, Igiss and TRP, they do have the “Encyclopedia of Needlework” by Thérèse de Dillmont.

I know not many people are keen on reading from PC, but if you have an ebook reader, or have one of those fancy phones that can read books, or can actually afford to print out hundreds of pages, then you’ll find this invaluable, since they can be downloaded in multiple formats.

And if you like classics, you’ll be in heaven.

Oh, I think I forgot to mention the sites. The Guttenberg Project and Many Books.net

Update: Some readers have added a few more sites, so I’ll list them all down here:

  1. The Guttenberg Project – http://www.gutenberg.org/
  2. Many Books.net – http://www.manybooks.net
  3. Scribd – http://www.scribd.com ( Thanks De La Rue )
  4. Free Ebooks.net – http://www.free-ebooks.net ( Thanks Apprentice )
  5. http://www.ebook3000.com
  6. http://www.ebookee.com/ ( Thanks Emi’s for the last two links)

Happy reading!

When I look back, I am so impressed again
with the life-giving power of literature.
If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of
myself in the world, I would do that again by reading,
just as I did when I was young.

Folks, if you thought Gutenberg and Manybooks.net were it try this one (to keep my promise):

    http://www.scribd.com

It will encourage you not only to receive but to give. In otherwords upload your own books for free too!

After all, it’s more blessed to give than to receive.

    @Teti, much welcome, royal one.

@De La Rue, thanks for the link to Scribd. I’d been there ages ago, but I think it was still in it’s infancy. It seems to have matured now.

I’ve just downloaded a book that was going to cost me a fortune… which makes it feel a little wrong… oh well.

I’ll add Scribd to the main post.

@Miss Fyne, lol, relax, I can assure you they are not going to take Kama Sutra down.
