five questions about your career choices
4 Dec
First off, take a minute and seriously think about these five questions:
1. What job would make you wake up excited at 5:30 AM, anxious to get to work?
2. What is the one thing you would be doing right now if money were not an issue? Lounging is not an answer.
3. Why do you want to quit your current job? What’s holding you back?
4. If you could radically change your career right now, what would you choose?
5. Look back to the last 10 years of your life, are you happy and proud, or sad and depressed? Why?
Okay, so they’re not five questions, just indulge me.
Almost everyday, we are faced with many choices, each of which will have an impact, big or small, in our lives. We make many of these choices subconsciously, sometimes even offhandedly, without a moment’s thoughts for the repercussions.
But nowhere else are these choices more profound and far reaching than the choices we make in our careers and for our careers. These choices affect our daily lives, our family lives, our children’s lives, and our futures.
And yet many people make choices that trap them into a career they hate, a life they loathe and a future that looks bleak.
A statement I like repeating to myself is this: “All the choices you have made in your life have led you to this one singular moment, this one place.”
It puts into sharp focus the next choice you’re about to make, doesn it?

That Confucius (How is his name pronounced?) has a point.
I may sound juve and all with this but here goes. I believe in destiny and fate. I also believe that one can alter one’s destiny but one can’t alter one’s fate.
Sorry, but I know what I’ve said has no bearing on your post. I just wanted to sound smart!
Wait, it akshully makes sense.

This is so like one of my supervisor’s at the Intern place…He’s one of the sharpest chaps I’ve come across and hearing these words from you, I also give you props for being such a creative and thoughtful person.
Am not blowing my trumpet but somehow I thought about all these stuff and realised that you should be able to take responsibility for stand by your choices…however bad someone else might look at it.
You should start some kinda career building stuff…Am sure the government will have some funding for it…I’ve heard of Enterprise Uganda but I thinks they are more in for the money(from the people) than providing a much needed social service

@Erique, not all of us, fortunately
@Ugandan Girl, thanks for the awards, will sketch some time to properly respond. Aeronautic Engineering is soo cool. Go for it, if you can. make sure your kabalo (maths) is flawless, lol.
@Emi’s, taking responsibility for choices and decisions, however bad they are is one of the biggest signs of maturity. Career building stuff? naaah, not now. I’m not yet savvy enough
Strange, when i finally read a full post from you it is about jobs!!!
1.I could stay up all night for my job and still be the first a work the next day.
2. What i am doing right now( May be spend a little more time doing interior design)
3. I haven’t gotten a better offer, most of the jobs are way to boring!
4. I wouldn’t change it for any thing
5.I would happily say i am happy and proud.
Is it possible to have choice in Uganda do what you love and earn enough? Why do Ugandans always think in the box that money is the reason we work?
1. Lucie’s job.
2. Writing a novel
3. I’ve lost the passion for it. I feel like I’m too old for it and it’s not challenging enough. It’s like no matter how hard I try to apply for other jobs, I don’t succeed. It’s like God still wants me to stay yet I feel my time is up.
4. Media
5. It’s 50-50. I’m glad for the experience I have gained thus far but at the same time I feel like I have stayed at my job for too long. I regret why I didn’t go back to school earlier.
Tamzel’s last blog post..Bad Boy – The End
1. There is no living person that wakes up at 5.30am and is actually excited! That said, I’d love to wake up early (8am earliest) to do whatever it is that Lucie does that she loves. So, be on TV it is for me.
2. Travelling the world. Seeing all the sights I’d love to see and not worrying if I can afford the hotels there. Sigh.
3. Because it’s not making me that gazillion dollars I need to do what I really want to do. It pays the bills so I’m still here.
4. I’d choose party planning. Hey, that’s radical for me but it’s a shot I’d like to take.
5. I’m both happy and proud and sad and depressed. For some choices make me proud and others don’t. Life’s not completely full or empty, it’s measured in halves.
