in search of perfection

Something small before I dash out for a crazy afternoon of errands.

About two years ago, a friend of mine told me something profound that has stuck in my mind to this day. We were discussing relationships and how we all have a dream of the perfect partner for us.

You know how idealogical we all get, perfect body, perfect teeth, etc etc.

Okay, so many some delusions are not so grand. Still you always want the best of something, right? Best job, best car, best house, best wife or husband.

But, just indulge me for a moment, and ask yourself this: Are you the best person for those things?

You want a perfect spouse, but are you perfect?

We all place such demands on other people to be what we want them to be. Demands that we cannot even ask of ourselves.

So why do we make these demands? Is it an attempt to complete ourselves, or to mask that which we hate to see in ourselves?

The truth is, we’re all flawed, and it’s our flaws that make this tapestry of life so beautiful.

I’ll leave this to Teti to provide an appropriate offtopic.

How about if we look at it this way.
‘…When we are together, we are perfect… I complete Him and He does me…So where my flaws appear, his strengths erase them..and vice versa’
    Does that sound cheesy?

hi i totally agree with you, we are both complete beings woh when we meet should add to each other, should be as iron sharpens iron…better each other with the best of us and help each other deal and accept with the worst of us.

This reminds me of an excerpt in a Zadie Smith book that I will now share.
‘What was it about this unlovable century that convinced us we were, despite everything, eminently lovable as a people, as a species? What made us think that anyone who fails to love us is damaged, lacking, malfunctioning in some way? And particularly if they replace us with a god, or a weeping madonna, or the face of Christ in a ciabatta roll – then we call them crazy. Deluded. Regressive. We are so convinced of the goodness of ourselves, and the goodness of our love, we cannot bear to believe that there might be something more worthy of love than us, more worthy of worship. Greeting cards routinely tell us that everybody deserves love. No. Everybody deserves clean water. Not everybody deserves love all the time.

@Nev, indeed. Seamless, wherefore art thou?

@Emrys, lol, so our flaws exist purely for comic relief?

@TRP, yeah, very cheesy. I like though.

@Lulu. Hi, I still get this feeling you don’t really know who I am, as in my alter ego… hehehe. Words of wisdom though

@Dee. Hey! Did you just quote that verbatim? because, darn…

    @MrBDawg, ssshhhhh, not so loud…

Some dude once said this to me…I hope it makes sense.

“Lemme give u a geek analogy on beauty. A computer is made up of so many parts. A CPU, a processor, RAM a hard disk etc. If u went out and bought the Best CPU, the Best processor, the Best RAM, the Best Hard disk, the Best etc — and put all the above together, they’d still not make the best performance PC.
Do u know why? Well, cuz even though these components individually are the best of their kind, they still do no have synergy – they don’t work/mesh together well to make a great PC.
Instead, u find a great PC has components which could (alone) appear weak/sub-standard. I think many things are like that. Especially what we see as irregularities on our bodies etc… Alone, they may seem unsightly or whatever. But as part of an overall package, somehow… they work hard to explain, but they work.”

Of course flaws build us and make us what we are ,but I think I go for these demands and I do not settle for anything lower. Esp. when it comes to a lifetime commitment, for sure. Even my house has to be,…….!
Thats why “he” has to be God sent, one that falls from the sky!

Aah, I remember those conversations we had on this subject. At first, I used to use it a feminazi bashing tool but then later, it set me free to find the amazing woman who is now my wife. Everyday, i try to remember, if i want her to be perfect, I gotta be doubly so. Great post.

Cheri, I understand the geek analogy but truth is we all want some thing good, I’d not go for a Pentium II processor and yet there is a PIV quad processor.

Me I do no know what I’d like in a chic but I definitely know what I’d not want.

S.B the fanta flaw can be fixed so no bragging about it, ps don’t ever tell guys you like fanta.
