making your own luck
I know many people who seem to have an impressive amount of success at almost anything they do, whatever deal they touch somehow turns to gold.
Most of us would write them off as simply “being lucky.”
But I believe it goes further than that.
I believe that behind almost every legitimate success story, there are hundreds of stories leading up to the one big story. Stories of decisions and choices made, stories of different paths chosen, stories of skills learnt, stories of friendships made in the strangest of places.
Which can be interpreted as being in the right place at the right time. They were ready for the opportunity when it presented itself.
Right?
So, instead of lamenting about how “unlucky” you are or how things never work out for you, why not do something to make your own luck. Why not prepare yourself for the opportunity you’ve been waiting for all your life?
It may mean making the right social or business contacts, to know the right people to help you. It may mean studying an extra language, just in case an international placement comes up. It may mean going back to school to learn one or two more skills that could beef up your CV. It may mean taking up a low paying apprenticeship job with some firm that you admire. It could mean going the extra mile in your current job, for that recognition you need.
It could mean anything, but what it ultimately comes down to is this: When the opportunity presents itself, you will be ready.
Will you be lucky?
