the weekend that was

Everytime I hit a cafe, it feels so totally wierd, yet at some stage in my life, I practically lived in the things. The keyboards are wierd, keys stuck together with remnants of soda and bagiya. The browsers freeze every now and then, and the stench and noise are unbelievable! There was a time things like this would never bother me because I accepted it as a way of life. I guess things change huh?

Speaking of changes, I normally have very quiet weekends, but this weekend has been crazy!

Wedding, reception and crashed kasiki

Had a wedding at 10am friday, then a reception at 5pm friday, ended about 10pm, crashed a high school friend’s kasiki (bachelor party) after that, ended up leaving at 2am. Met some interesting friends from waaay back. Downed pork like crazy, caught up on old times and tried out Alvaro. It’s pure crap. Shameless.

Facebook Developer’s Garage

Saturday, from 2pm to 6pm, attended the Facebook Developer’s Garage at Faculty of Computing at Makerere. It was an awesome experience. There’s tonnes of stuff / apps you can do / make with Facebook’s API. I met some very interesting people, including one of Facebook’s Chief Engineers, will post about that later.

WAPI 6

After that, 6pm to  ran over to WAPI, the British Council sponsored creative arts event at Hotel Africana. I hooked up with Darlyne, who ran off shortly after, for obvious reasons!

The event rocked! Fashion shows, art exhibitions… there was even a team doing freestyle Capoiera!! I’ve wanted to learn for ever! Naturally I got their contacts and will be signing up for their classes. Then there was this awesome rock band called Uneven. Man, those guys can play, and the lead singer has a beautiful voice! They don’t have any albums out yet, but I got a few numbers, will keep you guys posted.

Lastly there was Jamaram, a German reggea band who did some wicked collabos with local artistes. They ended the show with a few pieces of their own music, some beautiful reggea stuff, their opening piece featured some synthesizer like sound that was off the chain!

One of the organisers of WAPI wants me to work with them on some stuff, so I’ll keep you updated on that, but sounds pretty exciting!

After that, wanted to crash Effendy’s rock night, but was lugging around my huge laptop and was dog tired, so I just headed back home.

Church and Concert

Sunday, I’m at a cafe, just came from church, Calvary. The worship was simply beautiful. And the sermon struck home! Pastor Josh shared from 1 John chapter one. About Christians living in truth and in light, and about redemption and cleansing from our sins. Is the washing of our sins justification or sancitification, as in does the blood of Christ cover our sins or wash them away? Had me asking myself too many questions, so it definitely had its impact.

Also, there’s a concert in a few minutes back at Calvary, so I had an hour to figure out what to do, so I settled on blogging. Cool me huh?

After the concert, I have a birthday party to attend, which might end real late. So have yourselves a blessed Sunday, no beef, no hatin, and much love.

[update] the concert was so so, started about an hour late, I hung around for 30 more mins before I headed off for the party at 4:30, reached just in time for the food! It was a kids thing, but us adults of course had our thing on the side. Just got back, bone tired!

Peace.

Offtopic:

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we’re here we should dance.
